Actilight® enhances butyrate production

Actilight® is the most advanced ingredient which has been shown to stimulate the production of Short Chain Fatty Acids (SCFA) and especially butyrate in vivo in humans. This increased SCFA production is an important mechanism by which Actilight®’s sc-FOS impart major benefits to the human health. Butyrate is “fuel” for the colon: by enhancing butyrate levels from gut fermentation, Actilight® contributes to the health maintenance of the intestinal mucosa. In many human studies, the consumption of Actilight® also showed a tendency to reduce the pH in the colon, which is linked to SCFA production. This decrease of the pH contributes to the maintenance of healthy conditions in the colon.
