Characteristics of sc-FOS

Actilight® is composed of short chain fructo-oligosaccharides (scFOS). They are soluble and non viscous dietary fibres.

Fructo-oligosaccharides belong to the group of fructans. After starch, fructans are the most abundant carbohydrates accumulated in plants as an energy resource.
Fructans are linear chains of fructose molecules (Fn), usually terminated by a glucose molecule (GFn). These chains can vary from 3 to 200 units, with an average degree of polymerisation (DP) of about 10 units.
• GFn with a DP<10 are called fructo-oligosaccharides
• GFn and Fn with a DP<10 are called oligofructose
• GFn and Fn with a DP ≥10 are called inulin
The composition of Actilight® is consistent and unique. It contains the shortest chains of FOS available in nature.
